Mermaids at Weeki Wachee Springs

For my Birthday, we did a day trip to the Weeki Wachee Florida State Park where mermaids delight visitors since 1947.

The water is a magical blue with countless fish and turtles. We saw all kinds of birds, ducks, bald eagles, and deer.

The mermaid show is not in a 'tank', but in the open spring waters. Turtles and fish are swimming with the mermaids

Weeki Wachee means little spring in the Seminole Indian language, the spring is so deep that the bottom has never been found.  Each day more than 117 million gallons of fresh water come to the surface.

Spanish moss, mermaid statues, a family of peacocks, and the beautiful crystal clear water of the spring.

We enjoyed  an informative river boat tour and a short, but presented with fun, animal show, but skipped the water park.

Weeki Wachee is truly an original piece of Florida's rich heritage!

But one thing I was upset about, this State Park does not offer recycling containers, not even a simple bin for plastic bottles. We ended up bringing the empty water bottles home with us since we don't want them to end up at the landfill.

  5. you should go there while the kids are still young and maybe even watch Disney's 'Little Mermaid' before. No action rides, but the water slides did look like a lot of fun :)

oh, the food they sell there is horrid, so I recommend to everyone to pack a picnic basket :)
