What's in my garden bag

I have tons of garden stuff on the shelf in the garage, things I see at garden centers, or read about, and think I must try them out.  But I realize there are just a few items, the most important tools, I must have for every day gardening and they are in my Apolis garden bag. I tried several different garden bags and they are all ok but I stopped using them after a while, there was always something bothering me with them and I ended up with my tools in a small bucket.
This garden bag looks so good and is practical with lots of pockets, outside for the tools, inside for the phone and camera.

Behind the garden bag is the Tub-trug, the 38-liter size, a lightweight garden bucket with handles, I do not need to go out into the yard without it :-)

So, what's in the bag:

Garden tools I use in Myrtle Glen

  • Scratcher (or cultivator or hand rake) for loosening soil, raking up leaves between plants, and I use it for weeding.
  • Weeder with a sawtooth edge, perfect for lifting and dividing perennial clumps using the sawtooth edge, or to dig holes for bulbs, I actually never use it for weeding.
  • Trowel. Can't live without it.
  • Japanese style hand sickle, it makes cutting stronger herbaceous stalks such as canna, banana pups/leaves, ginger etc. so much easier.  I noticed the garden crew using this one at the Hilton Hawaiian Village.
  • Hand saw for branches too big for the pruner. This one folds in half and has a clear plastic case for safe storage.
  • Small rose pruner for tight spaces. I use them, for example, to clean out potted plants such as hoya and ferns.
  • A sharpener for the pruners and trowel blade
  • Classic Felco pruners. I have the smaller size perfect for my hand and they are mine. No one better touch my pruner!

  • Garden gloves, Foxgloves to be exact. They fit like dressy gloves, go higher up the arm than regular gardening gloves and are of course washable.

  • Also in the garden bag are a pair of household scissors, a ball of twine, a roll of Velcro plant ties, clothespins, a water bottle. And in the picture above, a paper bag with caladium bulbs :-)

I have added links to some of the tools to find out more information about them. The links are just links, no affiliate links.

  2. I love that trug and really should get one! I usually grab a giant plastic pot to put my clippings in, which is very unwieldy. Those gloves look interesting, too, as my forearms always end up scratchy!

    1. Yes, I also used a large planter, but this tub is so much better, and the gloves are great, thin enough to be able to grab and pull even small weeds :-)
