• In my Library – Passalong Plants

    Passalong Plants

by Steve Bender and Felder Rushing

a book by a favorite gardener/writer, Steve Bender, I absolutely love!

The plants are sorted into chapters such as ‘Gaudy or Tacky?’ or ‘Weirdisms, Oddities and Conversation Pieces’ and of course with the plant stories come the vital information such as size, hardiness, light/soil requirement and mail order sources.

I find so many familiar plants in this book, recognizing the ones I had received through forum trades with other gardeners. Strong plants that grow no matter what, but without a pedigree. The cuttings and divisions were sent with simply a ‘grows well with no problems’ attached.

The plants are not limited to just one growing zone, but I still love to read about them, even though they may not grow in my garden.

  • In my Library – A Cutting Garden for Florida

    A Cutting Garden For Florida

“Grow marvelous flowers for bouquets in your Florida home landscape!”

by Betty Barr Mackey and Monica Moran Brandies

Perfectly organized chapters with detailed description of the plants, seed starting guides, propagating from cuttings and divisions, a guide to planting bulbs, a section on dried flower bouquets and so many more tips and information.

No Photographs, but drawings of the flowers. I don’t miss them all that much, since this book concentrates on the how to create and keep a cutting garden.  If I want to see pictures, I ask Google.

What a great book for Central Florida gardeners, and the seasonal planting guide is just perfect!

  • Book in my library – Container Gardens

    “Container Gardens for Florida”

Another book I am adding to the blog category ‘Books in my Library’ :-)

Container Gardens for Florida by Pamela Crawford

This well-organized book shows different styles of container gardening, lists suppliers for plants and containers and covers the different uses, like container gardening for sun, shade, salt, pool decks, etc.

The large plant profile section has details of the recommended plants sorted in sections, like High Performers, or the top 12 plants for each season.

The detailed instructions are easy to understand, and the many pictures are an endless source of inspiration.
