• Just a branch

I got the idea from a nursery, of course their branch was the size if a TREE loaded with huge ferns, orchids and bromeliads. And of course they had the space for it. Here is mine, a downsized version:

  • is it harmless?

oh lookie, a bloom on one of my orchids a generous gardening friend shared with me:

    Bulbophyllum putidum

    now take a closer look:

oh dear! shaggy hair, long ears, large tongue ….

    Bulbophyllum putidum - come closer

    “come here, little kitty….”

“My, what big teeth you have!” ….

    open wide, and say 'aahhhh'

pah! completely harmless. I still have all my fingers and toes :-)

This easy orchid flowers in autumn, likes low light and high humidity…. Still, I wonder WHY does it looks so dangerous? One would think this look scares away the little  flies wanting to aid with pollination

  • chilly

We have a cold front visiting us, tonight the temperatures are supposed to go as low as 50F.
50F is that magic number when I bring in my Vanda orchids. Yes, they may take lower temperatures without damage, but in my experience they will flower earlier come next spring.
