It took a while for a wren couple to move in. For the longest time the wren house was occupied by frogs. I believe they are Carolina Wrens, someone correct me if I am wrong.</p><p><br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-IlmGsJnrFU0/YGcz_raDkSI/AAAAAAACnCs/U2AsOvV39Ks70q_vqSmCE2TAywb-vv7AACLcBGAsYHQ/s620/00000014.JPG" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="620" data-original-width="461" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-IlmGsJnrFU0/YGcz_raDkSI/AAAAAAACnCs/U2AsOvV39Ks70q_vqSmCE2TAywb-vv7AACLcBGAsYHQ/s16000/00000014.JPG" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div><br /><span><a name='more'></a></span><p><br /></p><p>Online I read the Caroline Wrens are the only year-long residents of Central Florida and that they are territorial. <br /></div>
<div>
I adore ferns! It started with a small start of an Elkhorn fern back when we lived in South Florida. I quickly added Boston fern and a stag horn to the garden (soon regretting planting the invasive Boston fern) and from then on, I can not resist adding new ferns to Myrtle Glen.<br />
<br />
<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Elkhorn Fern</td></tr>

<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<br />
I love the mystery and ancient feeling of a plant that survived through time. Ferns grew already on our world three hundred forty five million years ago according to fossil records. Millions of years. Millions! Try to let that sink in!<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
Most ferns are soft and feathery, inviting us to touch them, others don't look like ferns at all to me such as the Adder's-tongue Fern. It doesn't look as impressive as the Brazilian Tree Fern above, more like a weed, but this little native fern is welcome to grow in Myrtle Glen.<br />

Different ferns have different very specific needs, such as bracken ferns grows fine in dry and poor soil, while the maidenhair fern prefers moist and rich soil. The means one can find ferns for any and all gardens.<br />
<br />
This fern grows with little to no soil, in cracked stonework, even on rough surfaces. I know it as Huguenot Fern but Wiki says its common name is Chinese Ladder Brake.</div>

Ferns have no flowers, they don't have to rely on insects, just the air, a light breeze is enough for their tiny spores to travel and find a good spot to grow.</div>

<br />
There are clump ferns and single-leaf ferns, the latter spreading via rhizomes in perfect condition quite aggressively, but they can easily be controlled by pulling them out where not wanted.</div>

<br /></div>
Florida in August is too hot to be outside weeding, at most I go around picking up dead leaves. Some plants sure love the heat but I am thinking they appreciate the shade from the Crepe Myrtles.<br />
<div>
<br />
This bromeliad's common name is burning bush bromeliad, what a fitting name! The bed around the oak tree gets morning and late afternoon sun.<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody>

<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Strangely, my plumerias did not flower this year, except two. Who knows, maybe they do not like being shaded by the Crepe Myrtles.<br />

The Obedient Plant (Physostegia ) is a carefree flower doing well in light shade or sun and stays in bloom all summer and into autumn. I just recently found out there are different named varieties flowering white, lavender and dark pink. Not sure which this one is, probably the weedy kind :-)</div>

The Orlando city generates way too much light pollution, so we drove out to a boat ramp on Highway 50 last night. A few cars were there already with people setting up their cameras. Come to find out this is a favorite spot for the locals to explore the night sky.<br />

<br />
The darkness came and with it the mosquitoes. We did see bats, watched the blinking of the fireflies, heard alligators talking in the distance... and finally we could see the stars. By now more cars slowly rolled in with their lights off not to bother the stargazers.<br />

<br />
Neowise was there, like promised, under the Big Dipper just a little to the left. A smudge of a comet. We saw it without aid, better with the binoculars and nicely with the telescope. Of course, to be able to see it at all makes it unique and it is rare to be able to see a comet with the naked eye, even if it is just a smudge.<br />
<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Can you see it?</td></tr>

<br />
This picture was taken with my cellphone (Pixel 3 XL) and shows how I actually saw Neowise with the naked eye. For sure not even close to the photographs posted all over the internet.<br />
<br />
<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">The comet Neowise sure is no Hale Bopp</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
After gawking for a good long while at Neowise, we turned the telescope around to look at more satisfying targets, the orange banded Jupiter and Saturn with its impressive rings.<br />
We also admired the beautiful constellation of Scorpius, it looked like the stars were dancing above the waters of the St. John River.<br />
<br />
All the pictures on the internet show the comet Neowise so gloriously shiny I would have missed it if I would not know what to look for.<br />
<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<br />
So now we have to wait for 6,800 years for Neowise to show up again in our night sky. What will be by then, will the Earth be ruined or will Neowise find us matured, grown up and responsible?<br />

The summer heat in Central Florida is like running into a brick wall. The only times in the day I enjoy the garden is in early morning and the early evening hours.<br />

Banana plants are in their element, they love the heat, the humidity and the rain, they seem absolutely happy to me. The Bananas need about 5 to 6 months to ripen.<br />
All the other plants appreciate the filtered shade the Crepe Myrtles provide.<br />

I have no idea where the yellow tomatoes come from. seriously.<br />
Since I like my tomatoes without the squiggly seeds I fillet them and the seeds end up on the compost pile. Spreading the compost leads to tomato plants in the flower beds. But I swear, I never ever bought a yellow tomato.<br />

Simply topped with green onions, salt and pepper they tasted delicious :-)<br />

A Bell Pepper plant is growing in a flower bed, also from compost soil I spread this spring time.<br />
<br />
It is easiest to let Nature make her decisions in my little tropical wilderness. If the tomato and pepper plants want to grow at a certain spot, it is fine by me.<br />

Yesterday evening, July 11th, my Peter-Bird died.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Little Peter was born in October 1995. We got him from a breeder in Fort Pierce when he was just a tiny little bird. Our son wished for a cockatiel for a long time and, finally giving in, we had a new family member. Peter stayed with us after our son went to college and got married. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Peter whistled melodies with us, spoke a few words such as 'hello' and 'pretty bird', imitated the phone ringing. He loved to whistle out of tune with my hubs (who's whistling sounds like 3 people are whistling differently and all out of tune) it was quite a racket. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
He also imitated my laugh, and that made me laugh even more, so we were cackling at each other like two old hens, we sure had a good time.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
Peter had excellent hearing, he let me know with lots of 'hellos' and 'pretty birds' when hubs came home from work before I could hear the garage door opening. And he was a fierce little bird, he did not like strangers and he made his dislike known with loud squawks. Yes, his squawking, his way of letting me know he was displeased. I better offer him a bite of my dinner or else.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
Peter loved his carbs. Pasta, potato dumplings, mashed potatoes, bread, and yes, pizza. Not healthy, but who am I to deny the bird one noodle. </div>

Peter-Bird would have had his 25th birthday this October. A quarter century this little creature was with me. As it is most often with birds, there was no warning sign that he may have been unwell. I have to believe he died of old age. I miss him very much.</div>

oh my, what this poor Passion vine has to go through!<br />
But it is ok, this Passiflora, commonly known as Maypop vine, is a Florida native plant and I grow it for the butterflies, specifically for the Gulf Fritillary.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-4BZ0At6wI1o/Xv5K2wjoKmI/AAAAAAACcy4/A4wcHftmRIIkxKh4_LpyyvoGgg2iXc29wCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/MVIMG_20200601_115101a.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="620" data-original-width="465" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-4BZ0At6wI1o/Xv5K2wjoKmI/AAAAAAACcy4/A4wcHftmRIIkxKh4_LpyyvoGgg2iXc29wCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/MVIMG_20200601_115101a.JPG" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Gulf Fritillaries are really prolific, females keep laying eggs on the vine until it is completely stripped. Not sure what happens then, do the ladies fly on to find another vine? what if they do not find one close by? Anyways, the vine started out just beautiful, as all Passion vines do.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-jpIBi9M5a_g/Xv5K2frN1MI/AAAAAAACcy0/IWByUjzamucFYvPYf1x_BBbVoFTiI4e4ACLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/IMG_6120a.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="620" data-original-width="496" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-jpIBi9M5a_g/Xv5K2frN1MI/AAAAAAACcy0/IWByUjzamucFYvPYf1x_BBbVoFTiI4e4ACLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/IMG_6120a.JPG" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
But before you know it, the butterflies find it. One early morning, enjoying a cup of coffee, I see them. An army of caterpillars in shiny orange color with jet-black spines and they come in all sizes.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-KH1WaC-KKDw/Xv5K2A9NuLI/AAAAAAACcyo/eO-OL42qx2gn_5rM3gGpB6v6uKHIDxPRwCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/IMG_6106_20-06-11_gulfFritillarya.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="620" data-original-width="496" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-KH1WaC-KKDw/Xv5K2A9NuLI/AAAAAAACcyo/eO-OL42qx2gn_5rM3gGpB6v6uKHIDxPRwCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/IMG_6106_20-06-11_gulfFritillarya.JPG" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Rw2wCOFKAuY/Xv5K3VescNI/AAAAAAACcy8/-wHba5KTVGkZZlpvuK3I4MNzceEcMXQsQCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/MVIMG_20200602_093012a.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="496" data-original-width="620" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Rw2wCOFKAuY/Xv5K3VescNI/AAAAAAACcy8/-wHba5KTVGkZZlpvuK3I4MNzceEcMXQsQCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/MVIMG_20200602_093012a.JPG" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
The voracious beasts have nothing else in mind but eating this yummy passion vine. They start on one leaf and meticulously graze it off.<br />
Can you see what's left of that one large leaf? Just the thin edge.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Q7FKAZ93wEA/Xv5K2HlaIZI/AAAAAAACcys/okKU8QsbtKwO04wNL2oKPIwH2HMP8RLngCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/IMG_6103a.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="620" data-original-width="496" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Q7FKAZ93wEA/Xv5K2HlaIZI/AAAAAAACcys/okKU8QsbtKwO04wNL2oKPIwH2HMP8RLngCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/IMG_6103a.JPG" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
And they do like the purple flowers, buds especially, they dig in and eat from the inside out</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-gLOzTobY1uk/Xv5K3wBaILI/AAAAAAACczA/PKFqmAiifEorPUdYdFtVPuUIjNEtBTHhACLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/MVIMG_20200602_181424a.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="620" data-original-width="496" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-gLOzTobY1uk/Xv5K3wBaILI/AAAAAAACczA/PKFqmAiifEorPUdYdFtVPuUIjNEtBTHhACLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/MVIMG_20200602_181424a.JPG" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
They sure did a number on that vine</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_zBZQMz1wjo/Xv5o4GF9_SI/AAAAAAACc5g/gJGQbBQrpls6gvvQXLz0B8bvWt7yqyMogCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/MVIMG_20200702_174339a.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="465" data-original-width="620" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_zBZQMz1wjo/Xv5o4GF9_SI/AAAAAAACc5g/gJGQbBQrpls6gvvQXLz0B8bvWt7yqyMogCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/MVIMG_20200702_174339a.JPG" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
But, look, the vine does not give up, it keeps growing. And it is growing fast.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
When the caterpillars are so stuffed they can't eat any more, they waddle off and find a spot to hang themselves. Literally. just look at it:<br />
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-itcNLsdo4Pc/Xv5LUwulbLI/AAAAAAACczY/sC5pL8JjcnMNJ0S5mRXts6adbd6pCaB0QCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/MVIMG_20200620_091816a.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="620" data-original-width="465" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-itcNLsdo4Pc/Xv5LUwulbLI/AAAAAAACczY/sC5pL8JjcnMNJ0S5mRXts6adbd6pCaB0QCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/MVIMG_20200620_091816a.JPG" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
And as fast as they can, the caterpillars are no more. In their place are the pupae resembling crumbled dried leaves.<br />

Passion vines are also host plants for the Julia butterfly, but I have never seen one in Myrtle Glen.<br />
<br />
The caterpillars of the Zebra Longwing butterfly prefer the passion vine growing in more shade and they are by far smaller in number and do not strip that vine so completely.<br />

Our local botanical garden in Orlando is open but its Leu House Museum is closed due to Covid-19.<br />
<br />
It is real quiet on this hot Sunday afternoon. We hear insects, see some butterflies and at the lookout by lake Rowena the turtles and fish move around lazily in the water. All other critters are on their afternoon nap time.<br />
<br />

<br />
June started out very rainy, I believe it was tropical storm Cristobal's fault, but after a fairly dry May the plants soak up the rain. By mid-month it is steamy hot here.<br />
<br />
Let's see, the Lotus is still flowering, I just can't get enough of it's beauty<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-23h78TbEuqs/XtlG21TfnmI/AAAAAAACa4I/cHCi-6OyXV4qOYBsgBcS1v1y1f06EToTQCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/IMG_6030a.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="496" data-original-width="620" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-23h78TbEuqs/XtlG21TfnmI/AAAAAAACa4I/cHCi-6OyXV4qOYBsgBcS1v1y1f06EToTQCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/IMG_6030a.JPG" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="background-color: #fefdfa; color: #333333; font-family: "arial" , "tahoma" , "helvetica" , "freesans" , sans-serif; font-size: 10.4px;">Nelumbo lutea, Yellow Lotus</span></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<br />
<br />
Evergreen Wisteria or Summer Wisteria, Millettia reticulata, is finally flowering. I grew it from seed, which takes like forever.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

</tbody></table>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
My most favorite flower color in the garden is white, this on is Monstera Adansonii or Swiss Cheese Plant, I guess it gets the cheesy name because of the holes in its leaves.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The Passiflora edulis, Maracuja, is flowering and producing fruit (top pictures),</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
the Canistel flower is not showy but will hopefully bring a delicious Canistel fruit (bottom left)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
and the Kumquat tree set flowers for the third time, this will ensure a continuous harvest, and in the background the sunny-yellow flowers are from the Mousetrap tree, Uncarina grandidieri (bottom right)</div>

"To dream of cruising represents a relaxed approach to a negative situation. Cruising through problems with ease". Or so the smart websites tell you.<br />

... Wildlife, yes, I miss that, too.<br />
We observed a school of stingrays swimming alongside the ship during our weekend cruise end of March 2019.<br />

<br />
To ease the pain we have a Google routine set for when we go to bed, with shutting off all lights in the house the sound of soothing ocean waves come on to lull us to sleep.<br />

I would be happy with just a short 4-night cruise. But for now, in the time of the Covid-19, Royal Caribbean has all sailings suspended through July 31st 2020.<br />

<br />
It started in late April, Mr. Cardinal kept hunting lizards to bring those juicy morsels to Mrs. Cardinal, probably to show her what a great provider he is and that he is able to bring dinner home every day.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Ztm8oOAT-LI/XtP3lJMN9NI/AAAAAAACap8/IfZW0jzsaRAAo8uSZkXdiYFZR5IqIkR8ACLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/MVIMG_20200422_170455a.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="496" data-original-width="620" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Ztm8oOAT-LI/XtP3lJMN9NI/AAAAAAACap8/IfZW0jzsaRAAo8uSZkXdiYFZR5IqIkR8ACLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/MVIMG_20200422_170455a.JPG" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<br />
Mr. and Mrs. Cardinal were hanging out in the back corner of Myrtle Glen, by the driveway. I figured they were discussing options for the location of a nest. Last year they had picked the Mango tree.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-FGkEGgoCEFc/XtP5QGIbg8I/AAAAAAACaqU/lpSHebtJwEUY9M1oxus4QOkAdSV6gNjhACLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/MVIMG_20200522_171753a.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="620" data-original-width="496" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-FGkEGgoCEFc/XtP5QGIbg8I/AAAAAAACaqU/lpSHebtJwEUY9M1oxus4QOkAdSV6gNjhACLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/MVIMG_20200522_171753a.JPG" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
By end of May I finally found their nest, they built in in the Climbing Carolina Aster entanglement high up in a Crepe Myrtle's branches. I actually noticed it because a squirrel was getting too close to the nest and Mr. Cardinal was defending it fiercely with a lot of dangerous looking ninja moves involving beak, talons and wing feathers.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-phFQBvy4QwM/XtP6QackuPI/AAAAAAACaqc/99X35jPYcM4pG-aiGkdU_zcjy78VXT5IQCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/MVIMG_20200528_153858a.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="620" data-original-width="496" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-phFQBvy4QwM/XtP6QackuPI/AAAAAAACaqc/99X35jPYcM4pG-aiGkdU_zcjy78VXT5IQCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/MVIMG_20200528_153858a.JPG" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
Today is Fluff Ball time! The loud, hungry peeps are already going on for a few days and there was a lot of rustle and bustle in the Aster shrub. Today is the first day I see the little ones. The first glimpse is of a sleeping baby.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-hTuoXdf6V5w/XtP76DyG2wI/AAAAAAACaqs/NBRliQ-dgrErAGcu48-SlAgTauB4PuSyQCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/IMG_6024a.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="465" data-original-width="620" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-hTuoXdf6V5w/XtP76DyG2wI/AAAAAAACaqs/NBRliQ-dgrErAGcu48-SlAgTauB4PuSyQCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/IMG_6024a.JPG" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
The warning calls of its parents woke it up and I can get a good look at Junior. Just a fluff ball with no tail. The babies had somehow crossed over the driveway from the nest myrtle to this myrtle by the neighbor's fence line.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-zwWPjELGe7o/XtP76EY_5XI/AAAAAAACaqo/baTXp-s5gWwq-7Rvgp-ysIiGLpiW_b8zQCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/IMG_6026a.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="465" data-original-width="620" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-zwWPjELGe7o/XtP76EY_5XI/AAAAAAACaqo/baTXp-s5gWwq-7Rvgp-ysIiGLpiW_b8zQCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/IMG_6026a.JPG" /></a></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
May is my most favorite month in my Florida garden, where ever I look I see flowers. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
It seems to me in May the plants are simply happy. Happy for the spring rains to break the winter's dry months, happy for the warm temperatures, happy that I am done with cutting them back, happy I fed them yummy organic fertilizers, happy for the butterflies, bees, birds and all the other critters to be out and about. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Encyclia tampensis</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div>
<div>
And I believe the plants are happy that I am happy. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<a name='more'></a><br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
</div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-KSk5nlsfz0A/Xs3exClSbvI/AAAAAAACaVk/_Xjo4AjOrlYMOvJRYlqy2qx_sThOZ8uEACLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/IMG_5987a.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="620" data-original-width="496" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-KSk5nlsfz0A/Xs3exClSbvI/AAAAAAACaVk/_Xjo4AjOrlYMOvJRYlqy2qx_sThOZ8uEACLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/IMG_5987a.JPG" /></a></td></tr>

<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Luckily, these past months during the covid-19 lockdown the nurseries and box stores were considered necessary and I was able to buy mulch, potting mix and fertilizer. I wasn't out much, but a stop at the local nursery sure lifted my spirits.</div>

We cleaned out the bromeliad bed and thinned out the many overgrown bromeliads, I will have to add this to my journal in a next post. When we started I thought I will never be able to fix this, but we did it and I made a mental not not to wait for 8 years before doing bromeliad-maintenance again.<br />
