Mayflowers in Mom's garden

I love the typical spring flowers, daffodils, tulips, snowdrops, and then the late spring flowers, lilac, lily-of-the-valley, quince... none of them will grow in my gardening zone.

Quince

Zone Envy! A well known phenomenon amongst gardeners.  I have to be content admiring the beloved spring flowers in my mom's garden.

So nice to celebrate Mother's Day in her garden.

And a few more flowers

DeLand

On Saturday we visited the DeLand for their Wildflower Festival.  The university town DeLand is an old Florida town with a very pretty town center. We enjoyed the cute shops, had a great tasting pizza and homemade ice cream and, even though I did not buy any plants, I got rid of my money buying local honey products.

Chacchoben Ruins

Chacchoben (meaning red corn) was the biggest Pre-Columbian city found in the Los Lagos region.

Around Chacchoben

Before pictures of the ruins, I want to post pictures of the beauty around the ruins. It is all jungle, with all the noise I imagined a jungle should have. Loud bird calls, monkey hollers and all possible shades of green.

Pictures of the Dumbarton Oaks Garden

We spent a long Memorial weekend in the Washington D.C. area.  Lots of fun with Family, food, and touring the Dumbarton Oaks Museum & Garden.

Havana, through the bus window

We spent a good part of the day-long tour on the bus with our tour guide passionately talking about his city. Here is my sad attempt to capture an impression with the camera while on the bus. Next time we will do the walking tour.

Havana, here we come :-)

Many of our fellow cruisers were up on deck with us before dawn, so not to miss arriving in Cuba.

Mayan Stingless Bees

When we were visiting the Chacchoben Mayan ruins our tour guide pointed out an odd-looking 'growth' on a tree trunk. To me, it looked really creepy, like someone attached a zombie's hand to the tree.

Cruising to Cuba

When we learned of our favorite cruise line's inaugural trip to Cuba we jumped at this opportunity.

Frozen land

The two weeks while in Germany the temperatures never reached above freezing. It snowed when I arrived and then the temperature plummeted to 15F. Oh so cold!

Radagast

Master of shapes and changes of hue

The old Red Maple in my Mom´s garden reminds me of Radagast the Brown. (Radagast is a wizard in the Lord of theRings saga, my favorite story. )

The animals love this Guardian of my Mom´s garden, and the humans appreciate the shade of the wide spreading branches.  I never get tired snapping pictures of this old friend! This picture in winter, shows Radagast lonely and sleepy. Soon the tree will be awake again with birds building nests and raising their young, and the maple flowers in spring will attract thousands of bees, bugs and butterflies. I can´t wait!

Cruising

After two weeks in Germany, we went on our yearly Halloween Cruise, this time with the Freedom of the Seas. It was the last time for this ship to sail from Cape Canaveral, the Oasis of the Seas will replace it. We even received a certificate for this last sailing from this port.

My sister's garden in Autumn

I love Autumn in my sister's garden. Her garden is beautiful throughout the year, but in fall, it is special. I get a time-out feeling as if time stands still for a few magical moments before the leaves are all gone and the garden falls asleep.

Visiting Mom

A couple days after Hurricane Matthew my travels began. First with a two week trip to Germany to visit my mother. I enjoyed the beginning of Autumn with the crisp air and beautiful colors in her garden

The purple-leaf plum is a mass of pink flowers in spring, loaded with small sweet fruit in late summer and beautiful red in fall.
