Thought for the Weekend

No two gardens are the same.
No two days are the same in one garden.

Alpinia henryi 'Pink Perfection' (Alpinia hainanensis)

'Pink Perfection' is smaller than A. zerumbet, it grows around 6 ft tall. Its flowers resemble the flowers of A. zerumbet but the color is a richer pink

A new template for my blog

I am trying out a lighter, friendlier look for my garden blog. This template is very simple and crisp. How do you, my dear visitors, like it?
For many years I used the dark theme, my main reason was for the pictures to 'pop out'.

Hedychium 'Carnival'

When I started blogging, it seemed all the photo blogs used a dark theme and since I mainly post pictures, I followed suit. But now I wanted to try out the lighter side of things ;-)

Birds, Butterflies and Moths

I have finished and added a few more pages, Birds, Butterflies and Moths I observe in our backyard.

The Birds page lists the flowering plants our Hummingbirds like to visit,

the Butterfly page has a list of easy to grow host plants

and the Moth page shows close up pictures of the beautiful polyphemus moth.

Visiting Seymour and Audrey in Marie Selby Botanical Gardens

Marie Selby Botanical Gardens has something special going on right now in their observatory, 2 flowering Voodoo lilies, yes, not 1 but 2! Go take a wiff if you dare!

Amorphophallus titanum

Thought for the Weekend

Some people feel the rain. Others just get wet.

Mango sticky rice

Mangoes are my family's favorite fruit, especially the Carrie variety, its fruit is creamy and fiber-less, like eating custard.... for breakfast, dessert, in cakes, salads, sauces.

Do you like Mango sticky rice?

Copper Lily - Habranthus tubispathus

I guess it is called Copper Lily because of the copper colored throat and delicate stripes on the back of its pedals.

Thought for the Weekend

"I was just sittin' here, enjoyin' the company. Plants got a lot to say, if you take the time to listen."

Morning Light

My most favorite time in the garden is early morning, all plants are waking up looking cheerful and happy

Want to trade plants?

I am a plantaholic, I can't say no to plants. I live for plant swaps, plant sales, and nursery hopping with my gardening friends.
Most of all, I love to exchange garden visits where you and I go home with clippings, seeds and plant divisions from each other's gardens.

But if all fails, there is always the trade via priority mail :-)

If  you see a plant in my blog you are interested in, don't hesitate to ask, but don't be offended if I say no. To name a few reasons, the plant is too small, wrong time of year, or the destination.  If you live in a State that does not allow plant material from Florida, I won't be able to trade.

(Sorry, I do not trade outside the US!)

oak tree decoration

Sunday morning, cleaning out the oak tree and adding a few bromeliads. I believe it looks pretty good now.
