Pinkball

My favorite Winter flower, the huge pink and very fragrant flowers of the Dombeya wallichii

Also known as Pinkball or tropical Hydrangea 



It is this time of year again, the Dombeya flowers in December and January. The shrub is like a huge bug hotel, hundreds of bees, different species of flies, ladybugs and other beetles enjoy the flowers clustered into large pink balls. 


First flowers appear in December




The flower balls remind me of party decorations :-)

    Oh interesting - I have an indigenous to South Africa Dombeya. Also pink but our flowers are arranged in a wide bell, all the faces looking down.
    I need to watch for the insects that come, bees I have seen.

      Grows in Kwazulu-Natal which is sub-tropical so it should work.
