October 2011

Summer is done with and the preparing for the cool season is on.

Besides weeding and chopping back the jungle look from this past summer, I cut back the ornamental grasses (when done flowering) to about 8 inches high.

Perennials like iris and bulbine get dug up and divided, and whatever cutting has grown large and strong enough to be planted in the garden, this is the time to do it.  The plants will have enough time to get the root system established over the cooler months to start growing when it warms up again in spring.

Now is the time for the fall bloomers like Toad Lilies and Confederate Rose!
