This year's best celestial event

What can I say, I am drawn by the stars. And this means I got up early this morning to admire this year's nicest conjunction: The Moon, Venus, Jupiter and Aldebaran.

For this special event, the Moon showed itself in its best light

Seeing the image of the Moon cradled in the Moon's crescent  is called Earthshine. Want to know more about it, then read here.

The photograph can only give a hint of the view from this morning. Venus, the lowest in the picture, is at its brightest for this year, the top most is Jupiter and the bright star on the right is Aldebaran, the eye of the star constellation Taurus.

Click on the picture above to see it in full size. And here is a star map of the Constellation Taurus:

Hubby said he can't see the distinct star triangle of the Taurus constellation, so I circled the stars with Aldebaran being the lowest and brightest:

Happy Stargazing :-)

  1. What a lovely vision! I enjoy stargazing and watching the moon, and you have reminded me that it has been too long since I did that.
