The first this year

I found this just hatched Gulf Fritillary on the Passiflora biflora while cutting this overgrown vine back a bit.  

I moved the butterfly to the butterfly bed, hoping it will enjoy the yellow milkweed flowers.

This is the first Gulf Frit and actually, so far I only saw a couple Monarchs. But it is still early in the year. 


  1. Gorgeous! Here in New England I was just mildly excited to see the first fly of the season buzzing around today, ha!

  2. What a delightful surprise! It is still too cold for butterflies here. It was a real pleasure to see yours!
