Thought for the weekend

Treat the Earth well.
It was not given to you by your parents,
it was loaned to you by your children.
We do not inherit the Earth from our ancestors,
we borrow it from our children.

Bloom Day - August 2018

A month goes by so fast. I am trying to be better at following May Dream Gardens' monthly bloom day event. Life just has a way of tossing stones into my schedule path. And here I am, late once again!

This spider lily is a reliable bloomer, all through summer time. I received a few bulbs from a garden friend many years ago.

Summer heat is turned on high!

I feel it is best to stay indoors under AC on the hottest days of the year with a cool mango margarita and browse nursery websites and catalogs and make plans for what to do in the garden as soon as the most beautiful months arrive in Florida.

Ingredients for 2 margaritas:
  • 2 ripe mangoes, diced
  • 1/8 cup fresh lime juice
  • 1/3 cup tequila
  • 1 tablespoon orange liquor
  • honey or agave syrup, if needed
  • 1 cup of ice
Directions:
  • Put all ingredients into a blender and blend away
  • Rim the glasses with sugar and/or salt. I am using mango sugar.
  • Enjoy while online-shopping for plants :)

The very distinct metallic sounding notes sound like a warning ...

ah, there he is, the Red Cardinal on his favorite spot in Myrtle Glen, the very top tip of the roof

I know he misses the extra height of the weather vane but with the solar panels up we don't want to take any chances.
So he perches, straight and proud, right THERE:

Hahaaa, zooming in a bit closer, he does not look so fearsome with his wet belly drying off after his morning bath.

August in Myrtle Glen

It is just as hot and humid as in July and going out in the yard is not my favorite thing to do right now.

Early morning is still the best time to see the backyard. The sun is waking up and it looks like a spotlight is shining on my beloved elephant ears
