Look at this nice and healthy catnip plant! It wasn't always so.

A few weeks ago, I picked up three small plants from the local box store as a treat for Bob and Marley. Marley doesn't much care for catnip but Bob ....

So here I, and I am sure the plant as well, expected the cats lovingly nuzzling the leaves. But this is not what happened.

Bob grazed the plant down to stumps and this is how he ended up. He deserves to have a major hangover when he wakes up for butchering the poor plant.

Catnip (Nepeta cataria) is not Catmint. It's especially the catnip plant some cats love so very much. Munching on the leaves can give them a euphoric high. It's Nepetalactone, the stuff in catnip, cats go crazy over.

After Bob almost killed the three plants, I planted what was left in the pots outside and weed as it is, it grows like crazy (weed, get it? hahaha) And catnip supposedly repels mosquitoes but its white flowers attract bees and butterflies. A win-win for the garden.

Bob sure is happy when I bring him a few fresh catnip sprigs and I plan on drying the leaves for stuffing into their cat toys.
