August Flowers in Central Florida for Bloom Day 2020

Florida in August is too hot to be outside weeding, at most I go around picking up dead leaves. Some plants sure love the heat but I am thinking they appreciate the shade from the Crepe Myrtles.

This bromeliad's common name is burning bush bromeliad, what a fitting name! The bed around the oak tree gets morning and late afternoon sun.
Aechmea ramosa x fulgens

Strangely, my plumerias did not flower this year, except two. Who knows, maybe they do not like being shaded by the Crepe Myrtles.

Plumeria King Kalakaua

Plumeria pudica

I noticed this is a cute little flower in the heart of the Red Aglaonema by accident, it is small, about an inch, and hidden by the surrounding leaves.

The Obedient Plant (Physostegia ) is a carefree flower doing well in light shade or sun and stays in bloom all summer and into autumn. I just recently found out there are different  named varieties flowering white, lavender and dark pink. Not sure which this one is, probably the weedy kind :-)

The summer wisteria, Millettia reticulata, is flowering since June, I am very happy with this vine. The flowers are a dark wine red, not quite so noticeable as the Chinese wisteria, but I rather have flowers throughout an entire season than just for three weeks.

And some yellow flowers, a close-up of Zephyranthes primulina and the floppy flowers of the yellow Allamanda vine

I love my rainlilies, little jewels of the rainy season
Zephyranthes Pink Panther, Habranthus tubispathus, Zephyranthes Krakatau, Zephyranthes grandiflora

My beloved Tacca, or white bat flower is flowering early this year, but this year is a strange year in so many ways I shouldn't be surprised. ( read more about my Tacca)

  6. I've tried several times to comment and I hope this one goes through. I lived for a couple of years in the Tampa Bay area back over 40 years ago, and I didn't have my own land to grow anything. I enjoyed seeing your blooms - most of them I don't even know, living in upstate New York.

    1. Thanks for visiting my blog, not sure what happened why the comments did not go through, this one did, tho :-) It's kinda cold in upstate New York, too cold for me for sure. Of course the gardening is so very different here.
